If you can’t beat them, join them? That might be the case for ace pitcher James Shields who is reportedly drawing heavy interest from the San Francisco Giants.

A California native, Shields was of course a member of the Kansas City Royals who were defeated by the Giants in the 2014 World Series and now has become a major target of baseball’s best team as they’re said to be ‘going hard‘ after the ace.

"The World Series champion Giants lost out on Pablo Sandoval and Jon Lester, are lukewarm on Chase Headley, but are now going hard for James Shields."

The Giants were of course left at the alter by Jon Lester, who spurned them and the Boston Red Sox to sign with the Chicago Cubs. Hoping to add rotation insurance behind Madison Bumgarner, it’s presumed that James Shields also has interest in the San Francisco Giants though understandably wants to receive fair market value.

It reamins to be seen if the Giants will pony up that type of cash, especially since Shields is the best remaining starting pitcher available outside of Max Scherzer.

Along with that, San Francisco would also have to forfeit their No. 19 draft pick to sign Shields given his restricted status, a price that could be too costly though they did secure themselves the Boston Red Sox’s sandwich pick after losing Pablo Sandoval.

With so many questions regarding San Francisco’s rotation, there’s no denying the Giants need to add some reinforcements. Will that be James Shields? As of now, that remains a possibility though no certainty despite only having Madison Bumgarner and Matt Cain penciled in to the rotation.
