When it comes to endorsements for athletes, you have all the usual suspects like Nike, McDonald’s and more. But when Tom Brady of the New England Patriots decided to represent UGG Boots a few years back, most around the NFL couldn’t help but chuckle.
It was strange enough to see any player endorse the Australian boot company, but Tom Brady? The golden boy who could endorse just about anything he wanted? It seemed like a odd fit on the surface, though Brady understandably didn’t care as he was getting paid.
That didn’t mean he wasn’t a target for some trolling though as former teammate Wes Welker told ESPN.
The now Denver Broncos wide receiver says after Tom Brady began endorsing UGG Boots, the entire team decided to come out to practice/walkthrough wearing the footwear. Welker decided to take things a bit further though as he made his way onto the practice field wearing the boots with nothing more than a jockstrap, taunting Brady in the process.
Hopefully your imagination isn’t as vivid as mine which pictured Welker in nothing more than his boots and cup. If you did, no worries as I have an economy sized bleach available to wash the image from your brain.
All that said, there’s no denying the entire team going to a practice in UGG Boots is a pretty solid troll job on the part of the New England Patriots. One could probably assume Wes Welker’s nearly naked shimmy though may have been over the top and bordered the friend line with Tom Brady who was likely rushing to get some clothes on his former wide receiver.
