A dejected five-year-old fan of UAB football wrote a letter to the program and offered a dollar donation to keep the team around.

UAB football is about to go the way of the dinosaur, and at least one fan is devastated. Youngster Bennett Williams wrote the program begging them to stay in business, even offering some of his hard-earned allowance in the process.

ESPN reports that a UAB staffer got a hold of the letter and passed it along.

Soon enough, Williams’ parents got a response.

"Please tell your son that people who work at UAB saw the picture and are very excited about his letter. We’ve had some rough times around here the last week. I’m e-mailing a picture of the letter to other staff so they can also have their day brightened. The outpouring of concern from all over the country has been overwhelming, but for a child to do this truly touches all of us.Thanks so much for sharing the picture, and we look forward to the letter."

As a result, the university sent Williams a boat load of UAB swag.

What else are they going to do with their football merch, right?
