The Chicago Bears decided to bench quarterback Jay Cutler, who signed a a seven-year, $126.7 million contract just under 12 months ago. At quarterback this week they’ll trot out Jimmy Clausen, who has failed to live up to any kind of hype in the NFL since entering the league.
With the benching comes some moves at local sports stores, with Cutler’s jersey hitting the clearance racks at a discount of 25 percent off.
It isn’t quite as drastic as the clearance mark off for Tennessee Titans quarterback Jake Locker’s jersey. Though his lack of success might have more to do with his rash of injuries and supporting cast.
Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel made his first NFL start this past weekend and the game was a disaster. Manziel played poorly as the Bengals shut out the Browns and dominated them throughout the entire game. Manziel shirts hit the clearance racks after the game.
It looks like waiting till after your quarterback has a bad game is a good time to buy NFL jerseys.
