1. Golden State Warriors – Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson

Not only are they unquestionably the best backcourt of this year, they are arguably the best backcourt of this era. The Splash Brothers have taken the NBA by storm and it looks like they are just scratching the surface of their potential.

It is hilarious to think that NBA experts had questions on whether Curry would be able to translate his shooting touch to the NBA and have the playmaking ability to run an NBA team from the point guard position.

  • This year, Curry is averaging 23.5 points on 47.9 percent from the field and 7.6 assists per game. His field goal percentage is all the more impressive considering he takes 45 percent of his shots from three-point range. Combined with Thompson’s production, the Warriors have the most potent backcourt in the NBA.

Thompson is the perfect complement for Curry; a shooting guard who is lights out from three-point range and can defend opposing point guards to help conserve Curry’s energy for the offensive end.

He may be second on the team in terms of scoring, but he leads Golden State in three-point field goal percentage, converting 43.8 percent of the three-point shots he attempts. On the defensive end, Thompson has a career-best defensive rating, giving up an estimated 101 estimated points per 100 possessions and is fourth on team in defensive win-shares at 1.3 while guarding the opposing teams best player.

Last season, the Warriors lost in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs. This year, it appears the overpowering backcourt of Curry and Thompson are ready light up their western conference rivals and contend for an NBA title.
