Football is an emotional game with trash talking being lobbed back and forth from one side to the other, but you never want to see a scene like what happened at the end of the Miami Beach Bowl between BYU and Memphis. At the conclusion of the second overtime between the Cougars and Tigers members from both sides engaged in an all-out brawl after what was a tremendous game.
Memphis won the game 55-48 after an interception halted the drive for BYU and after the Memphis players began celebrating on the field one of the players threw a punch at a member from BYU and from there the sidelines emptied onto the field with players and coaches trying to break up the melee.
And there was a player from Memphis swinging his helmet around like it was a weapon.
After it looked like cooler heads would prevail and the two teams would go to their respective locker rooms and the brawl was over we got this ridiculous cheap shot from a BYU player to the back of the head of a Memphis player.
There is plenty of blame to go around on both sides when something like this happens. Memphis won the game. Memphis threw the first punch that led to the brawl, but this is not a good look for either team who will have to answer questions about a brawl at the end of what was a really entertaining bowl game which will not unfortunately be marred by an ugly postgame incident.
