There is no shortage of critics of New York Jets general manager John Idzik, but one of the latest is a bit of a surprise—the team’s official website.

Senior reporter Eric Allen of NewYorkJets.com released a scathing report questioning the work of New York Jets general manager John Idzik, fueling even more speculation that the executive might not make it to a third NFL draft in the job.

The video, which can be seen here, is not inaccurate, but it doesn’t sugarcoat anything, questioning the drafting of quarterback Geno Smith and the decision to not pursue cornerbacks Darrelle Revis or Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie in free agency last spring.

Idzik was hired as Jets GM in January 2013 after six seasons in the Seattle Seahawks front office.

With the Jets at 3-12 heading into their season finale at Miami on Sunday, speculation is running rampant about the future of both Idzik and coach Rex Ryan, who has been head coach since 2009, hired by Idzik’s predecessor, Mike Tannenbaum.

The video on the Jets’ official site does little to quell the speculation over Idzik’s status. While the GM was given credit for creating some financial flexibility for the club heading into the 2015 offseason, some of the moves he made are pilloried.

Idzik’s father, also named John Idzik., was offensive coordinator for the Jets under Walt Michaels for three seasons in the late 1970s.

If nothing else, Idzik’s situation shows the precarious nature of employment in the NFL. Draft the right quarterback and you can write your own ticket. Get the wrong one and you might have been well served to keep the packing boxes for your office nearby.
