Buffalo Sabres forward Patrick Kaleta appeared to punch himself in the head while tangled in a fight with Jared Cowen of the Ottawa Senators.

Patrick Kaleta has finally obliged the myriad of NHL fans who were long ago fed up with his style of play. In the middle of a fight, the Buffalo Sabres forward appeared to punch himself in the head, which must bring closure to some sort of vicious cycle we’ve been witnessing since Kaleta entered the league. Check it out for yourself.

Kaleta appears to get some kind of surge from that self-punch. He hits himself in the temple, then quickly sends a fist smooch right to Jared Cowen’s cheek. The tough guy from the Senators hardly notices at the time, but Cowen would get his revenge, albeit inadvertently, when the two tangled up for a nasty collision at the end boards that resulted in Kaleta being helped off the ice.

The latter encounter appeared to be a chance collision, but the self-punch to the dome? We have little to no explanation here. Maybe Patrick Kaleta had some Super Mario-esque power-up enclosed somewhere in his fist? Maybe the only way to unleash it was to crack it against his head? Let’s go with that for now.

Either way, it’s fighter beware next time. Make quick work of Patrick Kaleta before he beats you to the punch.
