New York Giants owner John Mara evoked the name of Lawrence Taylor when discussing the impact of rookie sensation Odell Beckham Jr.
The NFL awards season will have plenty of intrigue with a wide-open MVP field and a host of other categories with plenty of apt candidates. One category we can all just sew up and put neatly in its place is Offensive Rookie of the Year. If that one doesn’t go to New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., then we know as little as Jon Snow.

We’re not the only ones excited about Beckham after the conclusion of his brilliant rookie year. No one is going to out-pump Beckham’s tires when Giants owner John Mara is in the room. Mara went so far as to compare the impact of Beckham to that of the last great Giants rookie, linebacker Lawrence Taylor.
In just 12 games played this season, Odell Beckham Jr. tallied 91 catches for 1,305 yards and 12 touchdowns. He did most of that with the opposing secondary placing its biggest focus on him as Victor Cruz was out for most of the season, which makes the possibilities beyond 2015 seem endless.
Lawrence Taylor revolutionized the linebacker position and NFL defenses in general. Beckham likely won’t do the same for the receiver position, but he sure does make it fun to watch. For now anyways, his play has given the Giants hope as they look to return to the NFL playoffs in 2015.
