Denver Broncos star quarterback Peyton Manning played Sunday’s divisional playoff game against the Indianapolis Colts with a torn right quad.

Peyton Manning’s NFL future is in doubt following the Denver Broncos’ 24-13 loss at the hands of the Indianapolis Colts yesterday afternoon. The Broncos’ offense looked absolutely terrible, and Manning looked even worse than the offense as a whole. His poor play immediately made fans and analysts begin to wonder whether or not he was dealing with an injury.

Those concerns and questions can now rest, after ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported this morning that Manning has played the past month with a torn right quad.

One of the most important things for a quarterback to have is healthy legs. Manning appeared to be throwing very weak passes against the Colts, and this news explains exactly why that was. He couldn’t plant normally with his right leg, and he couldn’t move around in the pocket like he has throughout his entire career.

Does the torn quad make it more likely that Manning will simply choose to hang up his cleats and call it a career? Not necessarily, he decided to keep playing after a neck injury many though would end his career and even went to the Super Bowl.

No matter what Manning decides to do, this news is something that will take some of the pressure off of his shoulders. Torn quads are no joke, and to even get out on the field and tough that type of injury out forces fans to respect what Manning did.

It will be an interesting offseason in Denver to say the very least. Manning is going to wait for a while and test to see if his body can handle another NFL season. If he can’t, then he will retire and the Broncos will be forced to scramble around and figure out what to do next.

Brock Osweiler hasn’t seen much NFL action behind Manning, but he has shown flashes of talent. Perhaps he is their next option if Manning does decide to retire, or they could look to bring in another player to help fill Manning’s shoes.

Either way, the Broncos have to be thinking that their championship window could have closed following their loss to the Colts.
