Chicago Bears lineman Kyle Long and tight end Martellus Bennett exchanged words over Twitter after one ‘unfollowed’ the other.

If you’re teammates on the field, you’re teammates off the field. That includes Twitter and other social media outlets if you ask Chicago Bears guard Kyle Long.

That mantra would at least explain why Long took umbrage at having a teammate unfollow him on Twitter. So much so that Long regretfully had to reciprocate and unfollow tight end Martellus Bennett right back. Bennett, of course, quickly took notice and responded.

Bennett asks a good question. Why is Kyle Long so worried. Well, he didn’t take time to ask. Instead, Bennett took to swinging some more. He later said in a series of two tweets.

“I don’t need this form of social currency maybe you do. If a follow from me is going to make you feel wealthier socially, then u need to get out more. I prefer our day to day interactions in person. But that’s just me. You have my number. Stop the bullsh–.”

After the dust settled, Kyle Long returned to Twitter to claim his tweet on Bennett was in fact just sarcasm.

In defense of the Twitter-sphere, sarcasm rarely translates to text. Additionally, the random people on Twitter weren’t the ones who freaked out. That would be Bennett. Perhaps he’s the one with a needed lecture on sarcasm? Marty is the guy, after all, who spent three full tweets blasting you for that ‘sarcasm’.

Either way, Kyle Long predictably turned this one against the public and later proclaimed he was done with Twitter. Darn, there go all the college football tweets. Pretty much, that’s what you lose out when you stop following offensive lineman. They love them some college sports tweets.

In fairness though, Kyle Long seems to have an acerbic wit on Twitter, often roasting the idiots who walked a little too close to the fire in order to vent frustration over their beloved Bears in Long’s direction. Those things should cool off during the offseason so maybe Kyle’s just giving it a rest until then.
