Chicago Bulls star point guard Derrick Rose went to a fan’s funeral, proving once again that life is much bigger than basketball.

Derrick Rose is finally healthy this season and is getting better with each passing week. The Chicago Bulls have put a great team around him, and both Jimmy Butler and Pau Gasol have been playing at an All-Star level as well. Rose has to be excited to be back in the action, but he also is remembering that life is much bigger than what happens on the court.

There was an Instagram post that was put up by the user, itselsii, that showed Rose visiting a fan’s funeral to support the family.

Stories like these don’t come up as much as stories like domestic abuse and drunk driving. When they do, they need to be seen and acknowledged. Athletes are role models to a lot of fans, and this is exactly the type of thing that people should do as role models to help teach support and compassion.

Rose has been humbled a bit over the past couple of seasons by being forced to sit down due to injuries. He has been forced to sit back and realize what life is all about, rather than throwing himself completely into the game of basketball. This was a very mature decision, and a very comforting move for the family that he supported.

Needless to say, this was a very happy moment in the midst of the hardest situation that a person can be put through. Losing a loved one isn’t something that can ever be repaired, but having an athlete like Rose show up and join in the prayer and support helps the family move on in the present.

Chicago’s star point guard is touching lives off-the-court, which is much more important than anything that he could do on the court. This is a very heart-warming story, and the picture’s caption shows just how much an athlete can do for a family that is going through a tough situation. Our prayers are with the family as they continue to mourn the loss.
