Grades for the seven new NFL head coaching hires

When the 2015-16 kicks off next September, seven NFL teams will have new head coaches.

More from NFL

Every head coaching vacancy has now been filled after the Atlanta Falcons hired Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn. The Falcons had to wait to hire Quinn until after the Super Bowl because his team was still playing in the big game.

Since all the new head coaches have now been hired, it’s time to grade and rank each head coaching hire!

Why is it important to examine each new coaching hire? After the Super Bowl, that answer should be fairly obvious. Anyone who had any questions about how much coaching matters in the NFL now knows it can be the difference between a Super Bowl-winning touchdown and Super Bowl-losing interception.

Coaches get the heat when their teams lose, and they rarely get credit when their teams plays well. That’s the gig these coaches sign up for, and they know that going in.

So, who made the right decision with their coaching hires this offseason? Who made the wrong decision?

Let’s find out!

Here are the grades for the NFL’s new head coaches, starting with the worst hire of the offseason, Jim Tomsula, new head coach of the San Francisco 49ers.
