Bill Belichick has four Super Bowl titles in 15 seasons as New England Patriots head coach. He’s about to double his Letterman appearances to two.

New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick wouldn’t normally spring to mind as a person who would be an entertaining late-night talk show guest.

CBS announced Belichick would be appearing on The Late Show with David Letterman on Wednesday, Feb. 11, just the second time the Hoodie has appeared on the show.

But before you write off the potential appearance of Belichick as more of his usual press conference mumbling, remember the zinger he got off the only other time he appeared on the show in 2004.

Belichick was asked by Letterman if the team was aware of the infamous Janet Jackson “wardrobe malfunction,” per the Boston Globe.

“We didn’t see [it],” Belichick said. “We were in the locker room, so we missed that.

“Nobody kept us abreast of that.”

And … zing.

It’s hard to imagine Letterman will shy away from the topic du jour for the last three weeks—the allegedly underinflated footballs used by the Patriots in the first half of their AFC Championship rout of the Indianapolis Colts.

Bear in mind that Letterman, an Indiana native, is a huge fan of the Colts.

So, yeah, that’s probably going to be a thing that happens and the sports world will spin itself senseless (too late?) reacting to whatever goes on at the New York taping.

It is curious that Belichick would appear on TV before being interviewed in connection with the earth-shattering air-pressure scandal.

Anything is possible with Belichick, however. Remember, this is the contractually obligated successor to Bill Parcells as head coach of the New York Jets who resigned after less than 24 hours on the job.

It’s not likely the Letterman appearance will yield any bombshells. But then again, Brett Favre appeared with Dave after his 2008 retirement and hinted that he might decide to come back.

Belichick is currently fifth on the NFL’s all-time list for coaching victories, topping the 200-victory plateau after the Patriots’ 12-4 campaign in 2014.

With 211 career wins with New England and the Cleveland Browns, Belichick is 15 behind fourth-place Curly Lambeau’s total of 226 victories. Don Shula is the all-time leader with 328 wins, followed by George Halas (318) and Tom Landry (250). The only other coach with 200 NFL wins is Marty Schottenheimer, who won exactly that number.

Legendary coach Paul Brown had 213 career wins as a pro coach, but 47 of those were in the old All-American Football Conference and do not count on the official list. Officially, Brown is 12th with 166 career wins.
