Jim Dolan won’t be fined by NBA after angry email to Knicks fan
New York Knicks owner Jim Dolan tells longtime Knicks fan that he should start watching the Brooklyn Nets in response to an email the fan sent Dolan. Despite the strong words Dolan used in his message to the fan, the NBA decided not to fine Dolan
As far as New York Knicks owner, Jim Dolan is concerned, either you support his decisions regarding the team or you can root for someone else.

The fan’s critique of Dolan’s ability to run the team have come after years of disappointment in New York. This season, the Knicks have gotten off to quite the slow start. They are far behind the expectations that Knicks fans had for their beloved team. Especially after the hiring of a big name as team president such as Phil Jackson and the resigning of super star forward, Carmelo Anthony this off-season.
“As a Knicks fan for in excess of 60 years, I am utterly embarrassed by your dealings with the Knicks” the angry fan wrote in an email to Dolan. “Sell them, so their fans can at least look forward to growing them in a positive direction.”
A fair criticism of the team. after sub-par performance has been a common theme since Dolan has taken over. In the 2000’s, the Knicks have made the playoffs just twice, both resulting in a first round loss. Most of the blame has been directed upon the team’s owner because each coaching hire by Dolan has been short-lived due to extremely disappointing seasons.
After the fan criticized Jim Dolan’s ability to run the Knicks in an angry email, Dolan responded to the fan through a heated email of his own.
"“You are a sad person… In fact, I’ll bet you are negative force in everyone who comes in contact with you. You most likely have made your family miserable. Alcoholic maybe. I just celebrated my 21 year anniversary of sobriety. You should try it.”"
Dolan would go on to say that the fan should start rooting for the Brooklyn Nets, because the Knicks do not want him as a fan.
While the comments do seem harsh and a bit unwarranted, the NBA has chosen not to fine Dolan. Whatever their reasons may be, the NBA is supporting Dolan and his criticism of this unhappy Knicks fan.
This isn’t the first time the NBA has decided not to fine an owner after questionable behavior.
Earlier this season, Matt Barnes had a run-in with Phoenix Suns owner Robert Sarver. Barnes claimed in an interview with ESPN, that during the Los Angeles Clippers trip to Phoenix to face the Suns, Sarver had some choice words for Barnes while sitting court side during the game that caused Barnes to respond in an inappropriate manner.
After an investigation done by the league, the NBA ultimately decided not to fine Robert Sarver, but instead fined Barnes $25,000 following the incident.
Whatever the NBA’s reasons may be, they are being very hesitant when it comes to fining the owners of NBA teams. As of now, Dolan is off the hook. But for the Knicks basketball team, they may have dug themselves to deep a hole this season. They currently hold a league worst, 10-42 record, sitting at the bottom of the standings. Things are definitely not looking to great in the big apple for Knicks fans. If things continue as they are, I wouldn’t be surprised if Jim Dolan started seeing a few more unhappy emails from Knicks fans as the season progresses.
