John Wall and Steph Curry will highlight a HORSE event at NBA All-Star weekend that includes shots voted on by fans.

The NBA All-Star Game is fast approaching and with it comes the preceding events during All-Star weekend which are infinitely more enjoyable than the game itself. As the league catches on to such a fact, they have enhanced the events to give the fans more to watch and more with which to interact. USA Today reports that one of their big new acts will return after a two-year stint which the league deemed a failure: the HORSE competition.

But it won’t be as cut and dry as it was in 2010 and 2011, when Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant won both times. This time the event will feature ace shooters like Washington Wizards guard John Wall and Golden State Warriors guard Steph Curry taking shots voted on by fans. Want to watch these two take blindfolded free throws? Step right this way to vote.

Of course, this just makes us wish the NBA took this idea a little further. We love the idea of fans picking shots, but the execution seems a little stiff.

For one, the whole thing is sponsored by Degree deodorant, which means it will be whatever they want it to be. We wouldn’t be surprised to see one of these guys have to post up on a stack of deodorant sticks.

For another, the shots being voted on are pretty bland compared to what these guys are capable of. A blind-folded shot is neat, but we’re guessing these two can make plenty of free throws blindfolded. Beyond that, we have running hooks and opposite hand shots — both of which happen on a near nightly basis — and an over the boards shot, which is the ultimate in practice time fare.

So what could they do different to make this a little more fun? Well, maybe let the players choose a few shots on which people can vote. Or let some of the NBA’s more talented fans submit YouTube videos of shots they want their favorite NBA players to make.

For this year, we’ll have a chance to see how the league handles the revamped HORSE game, but in future years, we’d like to see fan participation get to a stage beyond a canned tweet proclaiming one’s love for voting and deodorant after choosing between one of four shots that everyone has seen.
