The coach from Evergreen park, the team that Jackie Robinson West beat 43-2, turned them in after he discovered many of the players did not live in the required area to be apart of the team. It is rumored that officials from Jackie Robinson West put together a “dream team” of sorts in order to win at all costs- even if that meant breaking the rules.
The members of the Chicago community immediately came to support the young baseball players.
T-Shirts started selling in the Chicago area claiming that Jackie Robinson West is still considered to be national champions.
Mint Clothing, who started the sales of the “Still National Champions” shirts, is just one of the many groups in the Chicagoland area who are standing up for the young boys.
Shaun Livingston, who is from central Illinois, Chance the Rapper, a Chicago based hip-hop artist, and President Obama, a Chicago native himself, all stood up for the Jackie Robinson West kids.
Brandon Green, Jackie Robinson West’s own player spoke out in a news conference claiming that “We do know that we are champions, our parents know that we are champions, the teams know that we are champions, and Chicago knows we are champions.”
“My teammates and I work hard all year long and we went down there to play baseball,” Green said. “We were not involved in anything that could have caused us to be stripped of our championship.”
The young ball player was received with loud cheers as he stepped off the stage after his short but strong speech.
Whenever adults tamper with the rules at the expense of kids it creates an unfortunate situation for all involved. It is nice to see the Chicago community coming together over this issue and letting the players from the Jackie Robinson West little league team know that they have their full support.
