What do you get for the team which has everything (including a new Lombardi)?

Well, the luxury of being that team is that they can go for pure value. I could see them heading in any number of directions but one thing they haven’t had in a long time is an every down running back. This would especially make sense if Stevan Ridley isn’t brought back, but consider the fact that they had to go pull LeGarrette Blount from whatever Subway he was working at to help them through the playoffs. They could really use a guy like Gordon.

The Wisconsin running back reminds some of a guy who really gave the Pats all they could deal with in Marshawn Lynch. He’s fast, he’s tough and he’s got all the skills you need to lean on him as Tom Brady continues to slowly decline.

That’s not a knock on Brady, by the way, but the truth. Notice how his passes were much shorter this year? Well, having Gordon to keep defenses honest and move the chain would be a huge help in getting a few more years out of Brady.

The one part that makes me feel odd about this pick? It’s the second running back, something which never happens anymore. The last time was when Doug Martin and David Wilson went back to back. The position is shaky from a value standpoint, but since when have the Pats cared about what ‘value’ the rest of the league puts on something?
. RB. Wisconsin. Melvin Gordon. 32. player. 47
