The Oakland Raiders are rumored to be preparing a huge $11 million per year offer to Green Bay Packers free agent wide receiver Randall Cobb.

Randall Cobb is one of the brightest young wide receivers in the NFL, and he has set himself up nicely to receive a big payday this offseason in free agency. The Green Bay Packers would love to bring him back, but his asking price could very well go over the budget that the Packers have for him.

It appears that other teams are going to have the opportunity to steal him away from the Packers, and one team to keep an eye on is the Oakland Raiders.

According to a report from PackerReport.com, the Raiders are preparing a huge offer of around $11 million per year for Cobb. If that offer is indeed what they give him, Cobb is going to have a very difficult time turning it down. Green Bay would probably be willing to go up to around $9-10 million per season, but not higher than that.

During the 2014 season in Green Bay, Cobb ended up catching 91 passes for 1,287 yards and 12 touchdowns. Those numbers show exactly why a team would be willing to give him that type of lucrative deal. Oakland is in major need of a legitimate number one wide receiver for young quarterback Derek Carr, and this move would fix that in a heartbeat.

At 24 years old, the future is incredibly bright for Cobb and he hasn’t even begun to touch the edge of his potential. Oakland hasn’t had a wide receiver as talented as Cobb in a long time, and Carr’s numbers would immediately go up simply due to Cobb’s presence on the field. It will be interesting to see if Cobb is more interested in money than winning, but it’s hard to turn down a big deal like that.

Aaron Rodgers and Cobb grew very close last season, and their chemistry throughout the season was impressive. If the Packers lose Cobb, they are going to have to turn to either the draft or free agency to help replace him. Second-year wide receiver Davante Adams is going to be a very good piece for them in 2015, and they also have Jeff Janis who is poised for a bigger role next year.

All of that being said, expect the Raiders to give Cobb a very big offer immediately when free agency opens. Cobb will have quite a few other offers to sift through as well, but Oakland appears like they will be very aggressive.
