Darnell Dockett signs with San Francisco 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers have signed former Arizona Cardinals DT Darnell Dockett to a 2-year contract.
The San Francisco 49ers have reached an agreement with former Arizona Cardinals DT Darnell Dockett on a 2-year contract worth $7.5 million. He will be switching from one NFC West team and heading over to the rival 49ers.
Drew Rosenhaus released the news via his twitter account:
Dockett visited with the 49ers and took a physical on Tuesday before agreeing on the new deal this morning. He will be returning from the ACL injury and the team will be hoping that he will be healthy and can contribute to the team. We will see if Justin Smith will return for another season as well. Smith has been contemplating retirement, but the team reached out to him recently to see what he planned on doing. The Dockett signing likely will not impact Smith’s decision. Both Smith and Dockett could form a solid defensive line in San Francisco.
Dockett also received some interest from the other NFC West teams during the process — the Seattle Seahawks and the St. Louis Rams also showed some interest. His decision came down to the 49ers or returning to the Cardinals, but he decided to see what it was like to play in a new uniform. We will see if he made the right decision when the playoffs come around.
Dockett turned 33 years old last month and didn’t play one game last season because of that ACL tear. He will be looking to take the starting end job over Tank Carradine in San Francisco and will be looking to prove that he can still play. He will be looking to become the comeback player of the year.
In his 11 seasons in the league, Dockett has 40.5 sacks. He will be bringing the heat for the 49ers now and will be looking to add to that number.
