Wisconsin won a thrilling Big Ten title game just minutes before the NCAA Bracket was unveiled, but the NCAA confirmed that they would have been a No. 1 seed no matter what.

The Wisconsin Badgers won the Big Ten this year and as a result nailed down a No. 1 seed in the West bracket of the NCAA tournament. But many were wondering if the Badgers were a lock to make it as a No. 1 seed even if they had lost the Big Ten title game.

After the brackets were announced, Scott Barnes from the NCAA stated on CBS Sports that the Badgers were going to be a No. 1 seed regardless of if they lost on Sunday.

That’s interesting on a number of levels, especially after looking at teams like Arizona and Virginia getting robbed with No. 2 seeds instead of No. 1 seeds. Duke stole a No. 1 seed in the same region as Virginia and Wisconsin owns a No. 1 seed in the same bracket as Arizona.

But as it stands, nothing seems to have been able to stop the Wisconsin Badgers from owning the No. 1 seed they walked away with in the South.

The question now is can Wisconsin make it back to the Final Four and live up to their No. 1 seed in the South? It’s not an easy road but it’s one that the Badgers very well could come out of.
