Troy Merritt breaks 2-Iron face (Photo)
Troy Merritt had tough time on the 11th hole at the 2015 Texas Open as his tee shot traveled just 155 yards because of a broken 2-iron.
With new technology, golf clubs continue to get lighter and increase performance on the green. Golf clubs might just be getting a little too light however.

At the AT&T Oaks Course at the Texas Open Thursday, Troy Merritt had an unusual occurrence happen to him.
As he was teeing off at the 11th hole, his shot only traveled a paltry 155 yards down the fairway.
It wasn’t for a lack of strength that the ball didn’t travel far, Merritt’s club face had shattered at impact, something that sounds seemingly impossible to accomplish.
Adding insult to injury, the broken club caused him to have to take more shots than needed to hole out on 11 and he finished with a bogey on the scorecard.
A metal golf club wouldn’t appear to be something that could break striking a golf club.
Unfortunately for Troy Merritt, it happened and cost him a bogey on the scorecard. Perhaps Merritt should use a heavier golf club and some older technology next time out on the course.
