It has been ages since Gonzaga was in the Elite Eight, but the Zags are back for the first time since 1999 after their Sweet 16 win over UCLA.

The last time the Gonzaga Bulldogs were in the Elite Eight, the world only had three Star Wars movies and Justin Bieber was still Canada’s problem. But fast forward 16 years and the age have moved past the Sweet 16 for the first time in almost twenty years, and are looking at a possible trip to the Final Four in Indianapolis.

More from March Madness

Gonzaga dominated the Bruins on Friday night, as the No. 11-seeded UCLA Bruins didn’t stand much of a chance against the Zags onslaught. It was a win the the Bulldogs needed, and it’s one that no doubt fills the team with confidence heading into a possible showdown with Duke on Sunday night.

If Duke somehow loses, then the Zags will be matched up with a tough Utah team, and their road to a National Championship is still one full of hazard.

Here’s a look at the updated NCAA Tournament Bracket following Gonzagza’s Sweet 16 win over UCLA.

Gonzaga is a staple in March Madness, but they haven’t ever realized their true potential as National Champions. Of course, to make this year the first year they win it all would mean upsetting history as Kentucky still stands on the other side of the bracket. But for now, Gonzaga is focused on either Duke or Utah in their first Elite Eight appearance since 1999.
