Flea wants to represent Lakers at NBA Draft Lottery
The Los Angeles Lakers could use some good luck at this year’s draft lottery.
If the Los Angeles Lakers want to send a celebrity fan to be their representative at the 2015 NBA Draft Lottery on May 19, they will have no shortage of choices. Red Hot Chilli Peppers bassist Flea threw his name into the ring for consideration on Sunday via Twitter.
Flea, a longtime Lakers fan, seems pretty confident in his ability to get a top two pick. That would probably mean Jahlil Okafor or Karl-Anthony Towns, as Los Angeles has a lot of holes and should just go best player available.
Many teams just send the owner, coach, general manager or a current player to represent their team at the lottery. The Lakers branched out at least a little bit and sent franchise legend James Worthy in 2014, but a celebrity fan might be considered a bit of a stretch.
The Lakers need some luck at this lottery. Getting the top selection would be nice, but the important thing is that Los Angeles’ pick is in the top five, as it goes to the Phiadelphia 76ers (via the Phoenix Suns) otherwise. After losing 2014 top selection Julius Randle for the season to injury in his NBA debut, not having a lottery selection would be more devastating news for the rebuilding franchise.
Perhaps head coach Byron Scott deserves to rep the Lakers more than anyone, as he led an effective tanking campaign to help earn Los Angeles the pick in the first place.
