With a month already gone in the 2015 MLB season, the Chicago Cubs have made some waves in the NL Central. Here are five reasons they are legitimate World Series contenders.

Whenever the Chicago Cubs get remotely good, World Series talks surface. This was seen in the 2008 season, the last time the Cubs made it to the post-season. With Derek Lee, Alfonso Soriano, and Aramis Ramirez in your lineup, how can you not think your team is going to win it all? But the Cubs blew it in the NL Divisional series to the Los Angeles Dodgers sending them back to the drawing boards.

Since then, the Cubs have been just awful. They barely missed the playoffs in 2009, and after that they haven’t been above .500 until this year. So when people say the Cubs have a chance at making it to the World Series this year, you should proceed with caution.

However, there is something happening in Chicago this year that is getting Cubs fans excited. With the huge off season acquisition of Jon Lester, as well as signing head coach Joe Maddon on, the Cubs seemed to be moving in the right direction. Now all they needed was a few good hitters.

Throughout the first month, we have seen three huge prospects move up from the farm system and enter the Cubs lineup by storm. Jorge Soler, Addison Russell, and Kris Bryant are making waves in the MLB this year and there is no reason people can’t get excited about it.

Do the Cubs really have enough to win a World Series though? Maybe.

They certainly have all the right pieces to be good in the future. Some might think that winning this year might be a little bit overambitious. But if you look at what the Cubs have done this year thus far, there is no reason why anyone should count them out. The Cubs young hitters are cranking out RBIs left and right, Lester is finding his barrings, and Joe Maddon is making all the right moves in the clubhouse. So once again, proceed with caution Cubs fans. But this year could be your year.
