Titans unveil an array of Marcus Mariota billboards
The Tennessee Titans are all-in on Marcus Mariota, and if you take a drive through Nashville, you are almost sure to take notice of such.
When a team drafts a quarterback with the No. 2 overall pick in the NFL Draft, the organization better be one hundred percent behind their signal caller of the future.
It appears that the Tennessee Titans are completely in support of their new face of the franchise, Marcus Mariota, and any visitors to Nashville, Tenn. will be quickly reminded of such. The organization is pulling out all the stops to convince potential season ticket holders that the Heisman Trophy winner from Oregon is the answer to drag the team out of the AFC South cellar.
The following billboards can be seen by anybody who takes a drive around Music City, and at least one Titans fan is pretty pumped up about them:
While I would be excited as a Tennessee Titans fan, it is not like they have much else to look forward to besides what is hopefully a franchise-changing draft pick in Mariota. I hate to break it to you, but for a team that finished last place in arguably the worst division in the NFL, it is going to take a lot more to bring Tennessee back to the glory days when Steve McNair and Eddie George led them to the Super Bowl fifteen years ago.
I am not saying that Mariota cannot take the Titans there, but, using the popular sports phrase of the week, it is ‘more probable than not’ that it is going to be a long process. The Titans made some smart moves during the draft and Mariota is a key piece of that, but adding some other pieces will be essential to the team’s overall success in the years to come.
Being that it will likely be a a few years before the team returns to playoff contention, however, the Tennessee Titans are pulling off a brilliant marketing ploy by placing these billboards all over town. Building their message around their pick of Mariota, who won the Heisman Trophy after completing 68.3% of his passes for 4454 yards and 42 touchdowns while rushing for another 770 yards and 15 touchdowns, is sure to get the fanbase pumped for the 2015 season.
I have a feeling that the hype will not be quite the same once the 2015 NFL season gets underway, but for the sake of Titans’ fans, I hope that I am wrong.
