Houston Texans cancel first day of OTAs due to inclement weather
The Houston Texans have canceled their first day of OTAs due to inclement weather.
Following a spate of storms that rolled through Texas and caused significant damage in the Metro Houston area, the Houston Texans have decided to cancel their first day of offseason OTAs (Organized Team Activities). Media availability and the team store have also been suspended until Wednesday.
The Texans aren’t the only Houston team to have been affected by the weather, either. Following the Houston Rockets Game 4 victory over the Golden State Warriors, fans were encouraged to wait out the storm at the Toyota Center. The arena reopened concessions and some folks stayed put until 4 a.m. (Dwight Howard even made a brief appearance to hang with stranded fans).
Aside from the sports implications, storms over Memorial Day weekend ravaged sections of Texas. They caused flash flooding and tornados, left roughly 80,000 people in the Houston area without power, forced closures on both I-10 and I-45, and led to Texas governor Greg Abbot issuing a state of disaster in 24 counties. Abbot has called it the worst flooding the state has ever seen.
