Tristan Thompson doesn’t eat fish because ‘they eat their own poos’
Cleveland Cavaliers’ big man Tristan Thompson doesn’t like to eat seafood because, apparently, he believes that ‘fish eat their own poos.’
It’s been an exciting couple of weeks for Cleveland Cavaliers‘ forward Tristan Thompson who is making his first-ever trip the NBA Finals. Heck, the fourth-year player made his first-ever trip to the NBA playoffs this year with LeBron James rejoining the team.
Thompson is one of the brightest young stars in the league today, despite his numbers taking a slight dip from 11.7 points and 9.2 rebounds last season to 8.5 points and 8.0 rebounds this season — an obvious reduction due to the additions of LeBron and Kevin Love.
Sharing the court with three superstars and a wealth of talented role players has to be tough for a guy like Thompson who is playing for a monster contract as he just turned one down this past offseason because he believed that more would be on the way, presumably.
Making the NBA Finals has to be well worth the step back in numbers that Thompson has taken, but he has seen a bit of a resurgence in Love’s absence this postseason. Thompson is definitely doing something differently in the playoffs since he has been much more affective, averaging 9.4 points and 9.9 board, but you can be sure that his pregame meals haven’t changed one bit.
According to ESPN‘s Dave McMeniman, Thompson tries to stay away from one food in particular: seafood. In a recent interview with Thompson as well as his mother, Andrea Brooks, she revealed the reason behind Tristan’s dislike for the water-originated grub.
"He also doesn’t like seafood, which he gets from his mom, Andrea Brooks. “I don’t like fish,” Brooks said. “Because the fish eat their poos. I don’t eat that stuff. Fish eat their own poo. So, I’m not eating fish.”"
First of all, Thompson doesn’t like fish for a reason that may, or may not be, completely factual. Heck, even Googling the question of “do fish eat their own poop?” brings up a handful of mixed answers. Some say yes, some say no and some just think the question is absurd.
Secondly, he and his mother refer to fish poop as ‘fish poos’ and make that the only reason they won’t eat the sea-lingering snacks.
If I was raised to be aware of animals eating their own feces, I would probably be scarred from eating a plethora of things as well. Luckily for Thompson, though, he can afford a personal chef to make him all the non-seafood related items he could ever want.
