Arsenal defeated Aston Villa in the FA Cup Final to win a trophy at Wembley Stadium.

Aston Villa and Arsenal squared off at Wembley Stadium in the FA Cup Final, the biggest domestic tournament in England. It was supposed to be Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard’s swan song but Aston Villa sent them home to move onto the final.

Regardless it didn’t look like any team was going to stop Arsenal from winning the trophy. They really came into form in the back half of the season and Aston Villa was significantly over matched.

Still, they did well to hold off Arsenal but the consistent pressure finally gave way to a goal. Arsenal striker Theo Walcott repaid Arsene Wenger’s faith for including him in the starting line up with a goal to take the lead.

It wasn’t the prettiest of goals, a cross was headed to a dead space and Walcott game through and drove his laces through it to score on the near post.

Five minutes into the second half, Alexis Sanchez scored a world class golazo to extend the lead. This shot from about 27 yards out ripped to the right center of the goal just at the bottom of the cross bar. It nicked it as it deflected in to extend the lead.

To make matters worse, Per Mertesacker hit a header low through the middle from the center penalty area to make it 3-0 in the 62nd minute. When Per Mertesacker is scoring you know you’re in trouble.

At this point the game was pretty much wrapped up and the rest of the game was a back and forth that featured little to no scoring. Aston Villa looking to find a goal to break up the clean sheet and maybe fuel a wild come back, Arsenal content to maintain possession.

That is until near the end of stoppage time, when Olivier Giroud decided to add another goal and insult to injury.

It was the largest gap in score of an FA Cup Final since Manchester United beat Chelsea 4-0 in 1994.

It is also Arsenal’s 12th FA Cup championship, the most all time.
