News broke late Friday that Kyrie Irving will be out for the remainder of the NBA Finals. In response, Twitter kindly melted down.

It was a sad day for basketball fans on Friday, as news broke that Kyrie Irving had been lost for the duration of the NBA Finals. Irving suffered a fractured kneecap following a collision with Klay Thompson early in the overtime period of Game 1. What had been a wildly competitive and captivating game (leaving fans drooling and thinking about a series full of equally entertaining contests) will now be marred by the unfortunate injury to one of the league’s bright young stars.

For Cleveland, it’s yet another blow in what has become a postseason of attrition. First the Cavs lost Kevin Love to a shoulder injury suffered in Round 1 against the Celtics; now they must march on without their floor general. Of the team’s “Big Three,” only LeBron James is standing tall – and even he has been dinged up during the playoffs.

Naturally, when something this unfortunate happens to a team from The Forest City all talk turns to curses.

God hates Cleveland.

Cleveland sports are cursed.

And Friday was no different. Following news of Irving’s unfortunate injury all the Chicken Littles of social media flocked out of the henhouse. The sky is falling in Cleveland, and Twitter is here to remind you. Below are some of the immediate hot take reactions in the wake of the city’s latest grim sports news.
