With the NBA Draft now less than 24 hours away, more and more people are interested in where some of the big names in this talent pool will be headed. One of those names, obviously, is the reigning National Player of the Year in Frank Kaminsky, who could be headed to a contender right off the bat.
According to Alex Kennedy over at Basketball Insiders, the team with the best record in the regular season this past year, the Atlanta Hawks may be looking for a deal to get up and take the versatile Kaminsky. Specifically, the Hawks are looking to get up to the No. 11 spot held by the Indiana Pacers to take the former Wisconsin standout.
It’s not known at the moment what pieces it would take for the Hawks to get up there, but it’s certainly interesting that they’re even inquiring.
Record-wise, the Hawks were the best team in the NBA last year, but they couldn’t complete the full mission, as they were eliminated by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals. While they had an outstanding regular season, it was clear there’s some holes on the team that need to be filled.
Should Kaminsky end up translating to this next level, then he could indeed turn out to be one of the missing pieces this team needs. If he can work under the basket and around the perimeter like he did in college, then this could be an even more dangerous Hawks team than we saw this past season.
