The Los Angeles Clippers have some free agency questions to answer, but Paul Pierce might not be someone they end up signing this summer.

Paul Pierce and Doc Rivers had a great run in Boston with the Celtics, one that resulted in trips to the NBA Finals and countless years of winning. Since the two were torn apart by the rebuilding process by the Celtics, they have had minor successes but nothing even close to how well they did together.

Last summer there was hope that the two would reunite thanks to Pierce being a free agent, but it wasn’t meant to be. Now that he’s a free agent again, there is hope that Pierce and Rivers are going to be back together. That might not be happening though — again.

According to Sam Amick from USA Today, the Clippers are not optimistic that they can convince Paul Pierce to take less money to sign with them and reunite with Doc Rivers.

This isn’t all that unexpected but it’s still a buzz kill for Clippers fans who might have wanted to see a reunion between Doc Rivers and Paul Pierce. They had a chance to get together last summer and didn’t, so why is this summer any different?

Washington is looking to re-sign Pierce and have him continue to mentor the young team that is in place there. Chicago and Boston are both options for Pierce as well, as he has connections to the Bulls and has a legacy with the Celtics that could get rekindled.

Pierce doesn’t have a ton of years left in his career, but he has a few good years left that teams are going to be bidding on this summer.
