NBA Free Agency: Grizzlies, Marc Gasol agree to 5 year, $100 million deal
By Mike Dyce
The Memphis Grizzlies and Marc Gasol agreed to terms on a five-year, $100 million deal.
The big contracts continue to fly around the NBA during free agency, and Marc Gasol is the latest recipient. The Memphis Grizzlies agreed to terms with their big man for a five-year, $100 million dollar deal to keep Gasol in town.
ESPN’s Marc Stein verified the report and added that after the fourth year of the deal, it’s a player option. Which means he can leave before the five years are up to pursue a new contract if he so pleases.
To put this in deal into perspective, Los Angeles Clippers center signed a four-year $80 million deal, so Gasol could’ve gotten roughly the same amount of money per year had he elected to leave. He wouldn’t have the flexibility of a fifth year to opt in if the team wants that contract off the books like in the standoff between Roy Hibbert and the Indiana Pacers.
