The MLB trade deadline, is right around the corner and Cole Hamels continues to gain steam on the market.

We are less than a week away from the MLB trade deadline, and one name that continues to be kicked around more and more is Philadelphia Phillies ace Cole Hamels. He was mentioned in rumors last summer but wasn’t moved — something that appears will change this week.

There are a handful of teams interested in Hamels, and his last start with the Phillies might have been the best possible scenario for Philly and for Hamels. The ace tossed a no-hitter at Wrigley Field against at team that has interest in acquiring him, the Cubs. It may seem like a no-hitter is a flukey thing, but it has effected his trade value nonetheless.

According to Ken Rosenthal from FOX Sports, the no-hitter that Hamels threw on Saturday against the Cubs has caused teams to increase their offers to them by asking for less money to stay behind and offering better players in a deal.

Of course, no-hitters are not a great way to gauge a pitchers consistency, but it clearly hasn’t hurt Hamels value. You can’t be all that surprised that a no-hitter has sent teams interested in Hamels into a frenzy. The entire idea of the baseball trade deadline is to whip teams who need something into a frenzy about getting that thing.

That’s why names like Sidney Ponson and Erik Bedard were hot names on the trade market. Those aren’t Hall of Fame arms, but they carried hefty price tags and massive hype heading into the trade deadlines at which they were traded. Imagine what those guys did — which was next to nothing other than stringing together a good year — and now think about how good Hamels already is plus a no-hitter in his last start before the deadline.

It’s a trade deadline rumor junkie’s wet dream, and it’s going to more than likely see the Phillies get insane return for Hamels before Friday.
