Can the Giants finally win the World Series in an odd year?

The San Francisco Giants have this whole even number World Series thing down to a T. In fact, January 1st next year, go to Vegas and place a wager on it. They’ve won the championship in 2010, 2012 and 2014, but haven’t yet been able to get over the hump to claim a title in an odd number year. This year may be their best shot.

The Giants are closer to the division leading Dodgers than they are to a wild card berth, though neither are out of reach. The Dodgers are struggling right now, so it’s the perfect time for the Giants to strike and try and take over the NL West.

They have the pieces to do it, and if you are counting them out at all you are making a mistake. Any time a team has won as much as they have, you can’t disregard them.

The Giants added Mike Leake to help the rotation, but he’s been hurt and they will likely add a piece or two by the end of the month. GM Brian Sabean has brought in pieces before to help win rings. He acquired Marco Scutaro and claimed guys like Pat Burrell and Cody Ross off the scrap heap. When those little moves work, they tend to result in rings.

Even with all the injuries they have, this is a team that, when healthy, can get on a run.
