Wife of Redskins GM apologizes for vulgar tweet
The Washington Redskins are an utter disgrace. On Aug. 30, Jessica McCloughan, the wife of first-year general manager Scot McCloughan, took to Twitter in one of the uglier incidents of the year.
Last week, ESPN reporter Dianna Russini wrote a story that McCloughan wants to trade Robert Griffin III, but that owner Daniel Snyder won’t allow him to. In response to that story, Jessica McCloughan decided to chime in from her private Twitter account with the handle of @Rutherchevy (now deleted) and accused Russini of giving blowjobs to land the story, according to The Big Lead.
Going after Russini seems to be a pastime for Mrs. McCloughan, who also took the reporter to task on Aug. 13, calling Russini her husband’s side chick.
The story blew up on Wednesday and throughout the day, the Redskins were quiet on all fronts until stating that the Twitter account is not Jessica McCloughan’s. The team also stated that the matter had been forwarded to the National Football League’s security department, according to
Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk
.
Now, in a fairly stunning about-face, McCloughan has admitted that she was in fact the person who typed those tweets, per Pro Football Talk.
"“I deeply apologize for the disparaging remarks about an ESPN reporter on my personal Twitter account,” Jessica McCloughan said in a statement issued by the franchise to PFT. “The comment was unfounded and inappropriate, and I have the utmost respect for both the reporter and ESPN. I regret that my actions have brought undeserved negative attention to the Redskins organization and its leadership. My comments in no way reflect the opinions or attitudes of the organization and I regret that my behavior has in any way negatively impacted the team and its loyal fan base.”"
The question now becomes what does ESPN do about this situation. For all we know, it appears Russini is a complete professional who has had her reputation dragged through the mud. Does the Worldwide Leader reassign Russini or let her stay on that beat? Does Russini simply ask to be reassigned, and if so, who could blame her?
Here is ESPN’s statement on the subject, per Pro Football Talk:
"“Dianna is an excellent reporter who should never have to be subjected to such vulgar comments. We are obviously extremely disappointed by today’s developments,” ESPN said in a statement."
More coming on this insane story…
