Cowboys RB Lance Dunbar left tonight’s game with a knee injury

Lance Dunbar has had a terrific year early on for the Dallas Cowboys. He has proven to be a threat out of the backfield, both as a receiver and as a returner. His 215 yards receiving leads the team, showing how much he has helped the Cowboys with WR Dez Bryant out with an injury.

During tonight’s game against the New Orleans Saints, Dunbar was having a terrific night on the ground with three rushes for 54 yards. Unfortunately, his night looks to be over after that.

Early on in the 3rd quarter, Dunbar went to receive a kick but had his knee buckle as he tried returning the ball. He would go down in a ton of pain.

There’s no word on the prognosis of Dunbar’s injury.

This is horrible news for the Cowboys, who now need others to step up in the return, receiving and rushing game. Joseph Randle will need to pick things up in the backfield while Terrence Williams and Cole Beasley may see a few extra targets going forward, especially if this injury to Dunbar is long-term.

The problem here is the Cowboys are simply running out of playmakers. They already lost Tony Romo for about half the season, Bryant won’t be return for a few weeks and now this injury to Dunbar puts the team in a hole. Do they go out and acquire another skill position player? Do they give newly activated RB Christine Michael a shot at playing time?

Well, it’s never a dull day in Dallas, that’s for sure.
