Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright is sick of those Viagra ads too!

Major League Baseball runs a lot of ads for Viagra during the postseason. Adam Wainwright wants to know what’s up with that?


There is no doubt that both Major League Baseball and Fox have done extensive studies on their audience when it comes to targeting advertising. And what has become immensely clear is that both parties feel that the majority of said audience has erectile dysfunction.

At nearly every commercial break during the postseason and during Fox’s nationally televised games, there have been a growing number of ads about improving one’s sex life through the usage of either Viagra or Cialis. Unfortunately, there are also younger fans staying up and rooting for their favorite teams to reach the World Series, and that’s likely led to a lot of uncomfortable conversations in many households.

Well, I’m hear to tell you that you are not alone!

St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright it taking up the cause of eliminating the need for those uncomfortable moments when you have to explain to your children why an erection can last four hours.

Let’s face facts here; Adam Wainwright has a point. The only reason these ads are being displayed at all hours is because of advertising dollars and both entities desire to maximize those revenues as much as possible, even if it is at the expense of its audience.

The ongoing mantra of the game right now is to appeal to younger kids and keep them involved at a younger age. By running these ads, the only audience that it is being appealed to is middle aged men who the game has likely passed by anyway. All this serves is for those parents to change the channel or not tune in.

That said, Major League Baseball likely has little say in what ad gets run during the games, even if Viagra is a sponsor of the league. However, Wainwright is still right to appeal to the league to push to clean it up a bit. It’s obviously not in the best interest of the league’s long-term vision and quite honestly, it is just bad taste.

But then again, the almighty dollar never truly cared much about taste.
