Georgia State’s Ron Hunter’s fall inspires bobblehead
By John Buhler
Ron Hunter fell out of chair during Georgia State’s major upset over the Baylor Bears in the 2015 NCAA Tournament; there now exists a bobblehead commemorating the event.
During this past spring’s NCAA Tournament, it was all about the Georgia State
Panthers
Hunters. Panthers star shooting guard R.J. Hunter sent GSU to the NCAA Tournament after beating Georgia Southern to win the Sun Belt automatic bid. His father, head coach Ron Hunter, tore his Achilles’ celebrating the Panthers’ championship over the rival Eagles.
In the opening game of the NCAA Tournament, R.J. hit a buzzer-beater to knock off #3 Baylor and Ron fell out of his chair in excitement over the greatest win in school history. Naturally, somebody made a collectible bobblehead encapsulating Ron Hunter’s frenetic fall.
So if Ron Hunter tore his Achilles’ Tendon celebrating a Sun Belt Conference Championship and fell out of a chair with a torn Achilles’ after Georgia State upset Baylor, one can only imagine what would have happened to the Panthers head coach had they moved on to the Sweet Sixteen.
The Georgia State Panthers have to regroup in 2015-16, as R.J. has moved on to the NBA – he was Boston Celtics’ first round draft pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. The Georgia State Hunters brought national attention to the school out of Atlanta, with R.J.’s deadly outside shooting and Ron’s ridiculous, reckless abandon behavior when it comes to celebrating Panther’s victories.
Georgia State may get back to the NCAA Tournament this spring by repeating as Sun Belt Champions. Though they may have to wait for another sharpshooter to arrive in Atlanta to get back to the Big Dance. Two things are certain: R.J. Hunter is now a professional basketball player and Ron Hunter now has a bobblehead reminding us all how hard it is to sit in a chair with a torn Achilles’ Tendon. More proof that March Madness can get the best of anybody.
