The Montreal Impact have denied any chance that Designated Player, Didier Drogba, will leave for Bologna on a short-term loan move following the conclusion of the MLS season.

Despite a plethora of rumors circulating across the Italian peninsula, the Montreal Impact have released an official statement confirming that their star striker Didier Drogba will not be leaving on a loan stint following the conclusion of the Major League Soccer season.

Numerous outlets in Italy have been reporting over the past couple of days that Drogba could be on his way to Bologna when Montreal’s postseason run is finished. The Impact’s owner, Joey Saputo, also owns the Serie A outfit which led to speculation that the striker could ply his trade in Italy during the MLS off-season.

Drogba has been one of the league’s most prolific players since making the move across the pond, scoring 13 goals and providing one assist in 13 matches. Montreal have lost just once with Drogba in the starting eleven, and that was to the Supporters’ Shield winners, New York Red Bulls.

The Ivorian striker helped lead the Impact to their first ever playoff win last week against Toronto FC, and they defeated the Columbus Crew 2-1 in the first leg of the Eastern Conference semi-final on Sunday. The second leg of the aggregate series takes place in Columbus on Sunday at 5 p.m. ET

Bologna are currently in the relegation zone, sitting in 18th spot, with just nine points from 11 matches. While there are still 27 games to be played in the Serie A season, the team already fired head coach Delio Rossi last week and are looking to turn things around before it’s too late.
