Surprise, surprise, black Missouri football players boycotting angers white men online.
A group of black football players at the University of Missouri have announced that they will boycott playing sports until University System president Tim Wolfe is fired or resigns. The message was delivered Saturday night, via the Missouri Legion of Black Collegians on Twitter.
The students are upset with Wolfe’s handling of racial issues on campus and in particular, his behavior Missouri’s recent homecoming parade. A group of students known as The ConcernedStudent1950 stopped Wolfe’s car during the parade to express their frustration and in attempt to be heard. “We disrupted the parade specifically in front of Tim Wolfe because we need him to get our message,” said Jonathan Butler, one of protesters via ColumbiaMissourian.com. “We’ve sent emails, we’ve sent tweets, we’ve messaged but we’ve gotten no response back from the upper officials at Mizzou to really make change on this campus. And so we directed it to him personally. That we are here. We want to make our presence known, that we are here and we deserve respect, we deserve humanity.” Wolfe later apologized for his behavior during the parade, saying of his actions: “My behavior seemed like I did not care. That was not my intention.” The apology seems to have come to late for Missouri’s black football players. As you can imagine, white men on social media were not too happy with the players’ decision to refrain from playing football in an effort to protest racial injustice. Take the response from Jeff Shope, who responded to the tweet from the Missouri Legion of Black Collegians.
Care to elaborate Jeff? Perhaps with a little sexism this time as well?
Jeff is a Seattle sports fan from Louisiana. Feel free to tell him what a standup guy you think he is.
If you think it ends at Jeff, well my friend, you don’t spend much time in the Internet.
Take some of these sparkling responses from SB Nation’s Facebook post on the story. These run the gamut of your typical angry white male responses to any disenfranchised group speaking up for itself. Because if there is one thing angry white men love more than their privilege it is complaining about people complaining.
Obligatory Obama comment:
George Perkins
George Perkins Congress should do that to Obama and say enough is enough. But I guess they are not entitled. Certain groups of people these days feel they can do whatever they want because its politically correct.
Take away their scholarships!
Some guy named Justin decided to foolishly ask why so many white dudes were angry about some black football players deciding not to play football and as quickly put in his place.
That’s right, dummy. If someone called these kids or one of their friends the N-word on campus, well that is just the price they pay for their scholarship money. Shut up and play football.
Or how about some highlights from Bleacher Report’s Facebook post on the story.
Yep. That’s right. Black players are stupid and couldn’t have gotten into college any other way than playing football.
Or how about the old “racism is over, you don’t know how good you have it” troll?
Thankfully, a white man named Eric Hull stepped in and set everyone straight because he saw this boycott for what it really is; a chance to get the white players on the field.
You tell em’ Eric!
Listen, angry white guys: Stop getting mad when black people are upset over people being racist. Stop getting mad when women say they are tired of people objectifying.
Why are you so angry that other people who aren’t you are upset when they get treated horribly on a daily basis? Why does they’re speaking up make you so nervous and defensive?
Why does it make you so angry?
Think about that.
And maybe just stop talking for a while.
