NFL Rumors: Jim Irsay wants Nick Saban for Colts head coach
Rumors out of Indianapolis have Indianapolis Colts‘ owner Jim Irsay wanting Nick Saban as his next head coach, which would mean the end of Chuck Pagano as head coach..
It has been a rough year for the Indianapolis Colts.
Rather than taking a step forward and becoming solidified as Super Bowl contenders, the team has taken a major step back and could be considered poor to average overall.
With such disappointment after such high standards, the writing could very well be on the wall for Chuck Pagano. Let’s be honest, it’s been on the wall for some time now, and each day it seems like there is a new rumor that makes Pagano’s exit inevitable.
The latest rumor comes courtesy of Indianapolis journalist Bob Kravitz, who also infamously broke the DeflateGate story. This time, Kravitz dropped a bombshell on Mad Dog Radio when he said Jim Irsay doesn’t believe that Chuck Pagano is the guy to take the Colts where they need to be. If that wasn’t big enough, Kravitz then went on to say that he thinks Jim Irsay is going to go after Nick Saban.
"“Jim Irsay does not believe that Chuck Pagano is the guy who can take him to where he wants to go,” Kravitz said. “He’s talking about not just one Super Bowl, but multiple Super Bowls in the Andrew Luck era.”Kravitz believes that Irsay wants Saban, and if Saban demands full control of the Colts’ personnel, Irsay would fire General Manager Ryan Grigson to give Saban the authority he wants.“Jim Irsay is going to make the next coaching hire,” Kravitz said. “If he brings in a guy who demands full power, like, say, a Nick Saban, who I think he’s going to go after, if he brings in a Nick Saban, he’s going to have full power and that means that Ryan Grigson will either be kicked to the curb or he’ll have a different role in the organization.”"
Well if that’s not a big bombshell dropping piece of news, what is?
Everyone knows that Jim Irsay isn’t afraid to make the big move to help the Indianapolis Colts. He goes after whatever it takes to help make his franchise a successful one. Going after the big fish in Nick Saban? That’s as bold as he can get.
For years NFL fans have felt robbed of having what at one time was looking like could potentially be a Bill Belichick and Nick Saban rivalry, from their days as highly touted assistant coaches.
There was a chance when Saban coached the Miami Dolphins, but he bolted quickly for the Alabama Crimson Tide. In Tuscaloosa, Saban is the man there with all his national championships that he has brought to the program.
It would take a lot to get him to leave the place, but if what Kravitz is reporting is true, then Jim Irsay has his sights set real high for the next head coach of the Indianapolis Colts, if he has truly moved on past Chuck Pagano.
