Golden State Warriors guard and Charlotte native Stephen Curry predicted that the Warriors would lose before the Carolina Panthers do, but not until February.

The Golden State Warriors have gotten off to an extraordinary 19-0 start to their season. Stephen Curry, their star point guard, grew up in the Charlotte area as his father, Dell Curry was a player on the original Charlotte Hornets. This was before the Hornets franchise was relocated to New Orleans, and before the Charlotte Bobcats revitalized the basketball spirit in North Carolina.

Curry is in town for a game against the Hornets, and was asked about who he thought would lose first, the Carolina Panthers (the town’s NFL team) or the Warriors. His answer was that the Warriors would lose first, but not until February. That way the Panthers would get all the way through the season without a loss.

Curry was then asked if that was realistic, and he didn’t say it wasn’t. Curry said that most didn’t see the team going 19-0, so, “why not keep it going.”

On the Panthers, curry said, “They’re playing at a very high level. It’s just kind of fun to see the world and everybody outside the Charlotte area be surprised by what they’re doing.”

Curry is not quiet about his NFL fandom, publicly showing his support for the Panthers on lots of occasions. He’s clearly optimistic that their 11-0 start will push them through the playoffs and to a Super Bowl win.
