Portland Timbers celebrate in locker room after winning MLS Cup (Video)
With the Portland Timbers claiming their first ever MLS Cup on Sunday night, Caleb Porter‘s men made sure to dance the night away in Columbus.
The Portland Timbers shocked the globe by winning their first ever MLS Cup on Sunday, after just five years of play in Major League Soccer. The Timbers were able to get the job done on the road at Mapfre Stadium by beating the Eastern Conference champion Columbus Crew, 2-1.
While Portland impressed on the pitch, the real fun started after the match, when the team returned to their dressing room. With the league’s most prestigious trophy decorated in green and gold, the Timbers’ held nothing back, fully embracing the moment.
Portland opened the scoring on Sunday night when Diego Valeri found the back of the net quicker than anyone else in MLS Cup history. Before the smoke had even cleared from the pregame fireworks, Valeri took advantage of a Steve Clark error to put the visitors up 1-0. Rodney Wallace added a second just six minutes later, which was all that the Timbers needed to secure the league championship.
Although it is the franchise’s first ever MLS Cup, the team certainly weren’t lacking ways to celebrate or dance moves to use.
..And after all that dancing, what better way to cool off than with a nice cool beverage? Designated Player and Premier League veteran Liam Ridgewell showed the youngsters on the team how it’s done, by celebrating the best way he knew how.
The 2015 MLS Cup was the league’s 20th edition of the championship game, and quite possibly one of the most entertaining yet. The 2016 MLS campaign is likely to kickoff in March sometime, but the Portland Timbers won’t be thinking about that anytime soon.
