The Summer of Kevin Durant is nearly upon us, and already the best team in basketball is being linked to the superstar free agent.

We are still a ways away from the official start to the Kevin Durant sweepstakes, but it’s never too early to start the rampant speculation that we might all look back on and laugh about later on. With just about everyone in the NBA linked in someway to Durant, it’s hard to be surprised when rumors pop up, but then again there are some teams who if they land Durant would seem like an unfair advantage.

One of those teams is the Golden State Warriors.

ESPN’s Chris Broussard — I know, but just go with it — speculated that one surprise team that could get in on the Durant sweepstakes are the Dubs.

“When you talk to executives, a name that will shock people is Golden State,” Broussard speculated on SportsCenter Monday morning. “People have to remember with the cap going up to $90 million or even higher, just about everyone is going to have cap room.”

So how exactly does this work where the Dubs sign Durant?

“Golden State would have to let Harrison Barnes go in free agency and probably have to trade Andrew Bogut. But they would have the room to go and get Kevin Durant.”

Broussard then tried to backpedal on this by saying it’s not something that is being directly reported or passed around by Durant’s camp — but the idea is out there. This also isn’t the first time these Durant-Dubs rumors have popped up, and it clearly won’t be the last.

It does make sense for Durant to make a move out to Golden State as he fits the style of offense that Steve Kerr runs and would finally have a Big 3 that he really only had for a few seasons in OKC, and an undeveloped one at that. The best Durant has played with is an up-and-coming Russell Westbrook and a still raw James Harden.

The NBA would become a very NSFW place if Durant teamed up with Steph Curry and Klay Thompson, as all of a sudden the Warriors go from already being the best team in basketball at the moment to possibly bing one of the greatest lineups in the history of the game.

How can Durant not at the very least consider that and vice versa?
