Report: Colorado Rapids interested in Tim Howard

According to ESPN, the Colorado Rapids are interested in securing the services of Everton and USMNT goalkeeper, Tim Howard.

2015 was a difficult season for the Colorado Rapids and their fans. The club did not qualify for the Major League Soccer playoffs, finishing dead last in the Western Conference with just 37 points.

As a result of the poor campaign last year, the Rapids have begun to try and bolster their squad with the 2016 season kicking off on March 6th. Colorado had tried to land U.S. midfielder, Alejandro Bedoya, but his current club, Nantes, refused to let him go.

On Friday, a report from ESPN emerged that the Rapids are now trying to sign another American who has experience playing in Europe. The aforementioned report claims that Colorado has now turned their attention to Everton shot-stopper, Tim Howard. The American international played in Major League Soccer from 1998-2003 with the New York MetroStars – now known as the New York Red Bulls.

Howard left New York to join Manchester United, before eventually moving to Everton. During his time in MLS, he was named the 2001 Goalkeeper of the Year, and was named to the MLS Best XI in both 2001 and 2002.

Along with a successful club career, the 36-year-old has also made over 100 appearances for his country. He was a member of the USMNT that won the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup, and participated in the last three World Cups.

Howard has featured in 21 matches for the Toffees this season, with his latest start occurring midweek in Everton’s scoreless draw against Manchester City. The club currently sit 11th in the Premier League table, with 28 points from 21 matches.
