Carolina Panthers defensive lineman Jared Allen plans to play in the NFC Championship game despite a broken bone in his foot

Carolina Panthers defensive end Jared Allen suffered a foot injury against the Seattle Seahawks in their NFC Divisional Playoff game. It wound up being a broken bone near his pinky toe. Allen is one tough guy so he plans on playing through it. When Allen tells you he’s playing through it, well, you let him play through it.

Allen was able to play through the injury on Sunday but he was a bit limited. Surgery was looking likely, but it appears that Allen’s going to rub some dirt in it and play through it. The 33 year old defensive lineman is reaching the end of a quietly glorious career but has never played in a Super Bowl. A Super Bowl victory would be the crowning achievement of Allen’s career.

Allen was traded to the Carolina Panthers earlier in the regular season. He had 27 tackles and two sacks with the Panthers in 11 games with them. He’s an important pass rusher for them and teams still respect his ability to get after the quarterback.

Look for the Panthers to use a mixture of Allen and Kony Ealy as the Panthres try to make sure Allen stays healthy and effective.
