According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the Cleveland Cavaliers and New Orleans Pelicans discussed a deal involving Timofey Mozgov.

The Cleveland Cavaliers might be first in the Eastern Conference and favorites to win the conference, but they’re a far cry from being able to compete with the Golden State Warriors or San Antonio Spurs at this point.

They just changed head coaches and they could possibly be making some roster moves soon. The roster clearly needs a bit of an adjustment and it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Cavaliers switch some pieces around in an effort to be able to compete with the top teams in the West in a potential finals.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski in his latest episode of The Vertical Podcast, the Cavaliers recently discussed a deal with the New Orleans Pelicans about center Timofey Mozgov, but the deals went nowhere and the Cavaliers had no interest in center Omer Asik.

It’s interesting to hear the Cavaliers are shopping Mozgov, but it’s not exactly surprising at all. While he was one of the best acquisitions during the 2014-2015 season, he was immediately exploited in the NBA Finals against the Warriors, who went with a small ball lineup, which rendered Mozgov useless on the court.

The Cavaliers are trying to get quicker and more athletic up front, which means that dealing Mozgov seems pretty likely. While they couldn’t work a deal out with the Pelicans, that doesn’t mean they can’t find another deal with a potential suitor.

He’s one of the players to keep an eye on as the trade deadline rolls around for the Cavaliers.
