Lucha Underground Season 3 announced to locker room in meeting
Lucha Underground is a go for Season 3 after the producers told the talent on Sunday the show will return
Lucha Underground is one of the most rapidly growing brands and shows in professional wrestling. After a critically acclaimed first season, though, there were plenty of doubts about whether or not the finances and situations necessary for a second season would be there. That was ultimately resolved and, with only one episode having aired in Season 2, Lucha Underground has the green light for Season 3.
As reported by Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet, Lucha Underground held their final Season 2 tapings on Sunday and, during a meeting with the cast backstage, the producers made the announcement that the show will be coming back for Season 3. Rejoice, rejoice, hallelujah!
With the cast just finding out in a locker room meeting on Sunday, there obviously aren’t any details even rumored to be true about Season 3 just yet—we don’t know when it will start taping and definitely don’t know when it’ll be aired.
However, that the show is coming back for a third season is huge news for wrestling fans and a testament to the growing popularity of Lucha Underground. Even being aired on El Rey Network, the Season 2 premiere episode reportedly drew 109,000 viewers for the first airing and 85,000 viewers for the replay, a number way up from the series debut in 2014.
Lucha Underground has consistently been one of the most entertaining wrestling products being broadcast in recent years and it’s refreshing and exciting to see it getting the chance to continue and to keep growing. Even though there are still dozens of episode left in Season 2, fans can already start buzzing and getting excited about Season 3.
