John Cena shows appreciation for Daniel Bryan amidst retirement

John Cena expressed heartfelt admiration and appreciation for Daniel Bryan

There’s no doubt that there isn’t a bigger babyface in professional wrestling than WWE superstar John Cena. He’s the face of the biggest wrestling company in the world and has been for quite some time. However, if there was ever any superstar to come close to dethroning him from that title, it was Daniel Bryan at the peak of his run with WWE.

With Bryan announcing his retirement on Monday, Cena took to Twitter to express his admiration for Bryan’s career and how he turned WWE on its head with how he went about his business and became one of the biggest stars and best wresters on the planet:

Cena and Bryan obviously have a personal connection as Bryan is married to Brie Bella while Cena is dating Brie’s twin sister Nikki. However, what Cena is touching at here is Daniel Bryan as a professional wrestler, which comes off just as—if not more—poignant than anything else could.

What Cena is saying is true, too. Bryan isn’t the conventional WWE superstar given his size and his overall look, something that Cena is really the embodiment of with muscles on top of muscles and his pandering to the masses. Bryan, however, always remained true to himself and fought for both his credibility and his popularity every inch of the way.

With the outpouring of respect and gratitude that WWE superstars, other wrestlers, and fans have all sent to Bryan on Monday, it’s only becoming even clearer how much Bryan means to the wrestling business as a whole.
